Dear Confrere et Consoeurs,
You are cordially invited to our Chaine Picnic Extravaganza. In a break from tradition, we’re going to a farm!
Well, sort of. The date is Sunday, August 20th 2017, beginning at 3PM and concluding by 7PM. We will be hosted by Chef Rotisseur Chris Galarza and his talented staff at Chatham University Eden Hall Campus in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania.
Why would we possibly go to a university to have a picnic? Well, this isn’t any sort of university. It is a 388 acre plot of land and the lynchpin of Chatham University’s Falk School of Sustainability. We’ll be able to see everything from their fully certified organic farm, demonstration gardens (one heated year around by solar-thermal panels), aquaponics, mushroom farming, edible landscape, and a fish farm! Who knew?
Chef Rotisseur Chris Galarza is leading the culinary afternoon featuring many items from their farm, creating a true “Farm to Table” experience for us. A graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, he went on to apprentice at the prestigious Five Star Five Diamond Greenbrier Resort, and has had the privilege to work under three Certified Master Chefs.
At the age of 23, he became Acting Executive Chef at Monterey Bay Fish Grotto, the #1 Seafood Restaurant in Pittsburgh. After time at Off The Hook in Wexford, he went on to become Catering Chef for Carnegie Mellon University. He arrived at the Chatham University Eden Hall campus in the summer of 2015 with Parkhurst Dining and hasn’t looked back.
Come and join us on Sunday, August 20th 2017, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This will be a very casual event and we will be outside. (It’s a picnic, after all). Decorations are requested and make sure to wear comfortable shoes. May I please have your reservations by August 15st, payable to the Chaine des Rotisseurs. Address them to my attention to avoid any post office confusion. The cost is $75.00/person per member couple, and $85/guest. The address for the GPS is 6035 Ridge Road, Gibsonia, PA 15044. Our building will be on the right side of the road so look for the solar panels on the roof of the parking lot. Signs will be out to guide you to the event once you are on the campus.
Lastly, there will be a lot of details about upcoming Chaine events, scholarship details and so much more! So be prepared to enjoy outstanding foods, wines, and camaraderie. This will be a lot of fun and we hope to see you there! If there are any questions, please contact me. Otherwise, we’ll see you at Chatham University Eden Hall!
Vive la Chaine!
