Helmut Jung
A native of the well-known wine village of Nierstein, Rheinhessen, Helmut
Jung was first exposed to wine making by his grandparents who were part-time
vintners. After attending local schools, he served an apprenticeship with
one of Nierstein's leading wine estates, where he gained administrative
and cellar technology experience. To complete his formal education, Jung
then attended the Geisenheim Viticultural Institute and worked as an assistant
cellar master for a Nahe-region cooperative. After working with the largest
German distillery as salesperson and representative, he return to the
Nierstein estate to assume the position of export manager and sales representative
in various markets worldwide. For the last 20 years, Jung has served as
Director of Education at the German Wine Institute of Mainz. His main
responsibility is supervising the curriculum of the Germany Wine Academy,
for which he conducts English language seminars on German wine every year.
Witty and articulate, he is an ideal spokesperson for the German wine
industry.
